Editorial Checklist, Linking Conventions & Status Definitions
This specification outlines the quality assurance checklist, cross-referencing rules, and lifecycle statuses for entries in The AI / SI Encyclopedia (thebestai.co).
#1. Editorial Review Checklist
Every article submitted or updated must be validated against the project's 15 Quality Dimensions (specified in docs/source/ENCYCLOPEDIA_BLUEPRINT.md, Section 19):
- 1. Accuracy: All factual claims are corroborated by primary citations. No hallucinated DOIs or papers.
- 2. Coverage: Major concepts, foundational mathematics, and real-world mechanisms are addressed thoroughly.
- 3. Clarity: Clear definitions; avoids convoluted jargon. Opening paragraph provides an immediate answer.
- 4. Depth: Adequate technical rigour; includes equations, algorithmic complexity, or formal definitions where appropriate.
- 5. Chronology: Lineage is chronologically accurate: intellectual roots breakthrough state of the art outlook.
- 6. Consistency: Terminology matches
docs/ENTITY_REGISTRY.md. No contradictory definitions across entries. - 7. Cross-Referencing: Section 10 contains categorized internal links. Markdown relative paths are valid.
- 8. Source Quality: Primary papers and top-tier textbooks prioritized (Tier 1 & Tier 2).
- 9. Transparency: Explicitly distinguishes what is proven from what is contested, hypothetical, or forecast.
- 10. Currency: Benchmarks, parameter counts, and dates are explicitly labeled with their review date.
- 11. Predictive Discipline: Future projections include explicit metrics, time horizons, and underlying assumptions.
- 12. Accessibility: Structured layered depth allows progression from introductory definitions to technical monographs.
- 13. Traceability: Section 13 (Revision History) documents changes with semantic versions and dates.
- 14. Editorial Independence: Promotional vendor marketing claims are excluded or critically contextualized.
- 15. Interdisciplinary Integration: Technical advances are connected to their economic, safety, and philosophical implications.
#2. Article Status Lifecycle Definitions
Every entry in docs/CONTENT_REGISTER.md and in YAML frontmatter carries an authoritative status:
| Status | Definition | Transition Criteria |
|---|---|---|
Planned |
Article is cataloged in the taxonomy and assigned a canonical ID, title, and scope, but writing has not begun. | Initial taxonomy ingestion. |
Researching |
Authoritative primary sources, textbooks, and benchmark records are being gathered and evaluated. | Source dossier compiled in Section 11/12. |
Draft |
Complete article drafted across all 13 canonical sections, but awaits full peer or fact-checking review. | Full article drafted using canonical template. |
Under Review |
Article is actively undergoing verification by the encyclopedia-fact-checker or domain specialist. |
Audit report generated. |
Verified |
All citations, mathematics, historical claims, and links have been verified against primary sources. | Zero critical or major audit findings. |
Published |
Integrated into the active knowledge graph with complete two-way cross-references. | Added to content register and web build. |
Superseded |
Information has been substantially replaced by newer paradigms, but entry is preserved for historical continuity. | Deprecated with link to newer canonical article. |
#3. Internal Linking Conventions
- Format: Use relative markdown links between articles:
- Within same volume:
[Concept Title](./[ID]_[slug].md) - Across different volumes:
[Concept Title](../volXX_[volume]/[ID]_[slug].md) - To references:
[Term Definition](../../reference/dictionary/[ID]_[slug].md)
- Within same volume:
- Anchor Text: Anchor text must reflect the canonical entity name or natural syntactic equivalent. Avoid non-descriptive anchors like "here" or "click this link".
- Link Density: Link key technical terms, algorithmic dependencies, and historical pioneers on their first appearance in an article. Avoid linking every single repeated occurrence.
- Bidirectional Relationship: When Article A links to Article B as a fundamental prerequisite or counterpart, Article B should catalog Article A in its Section 10 related entries.
